very well said Andy, im not the brightest but im not dumb ether and the deus manual is rubbish....so is the printed manual that comes with the ctx.Andy wrote:Yes, there certainly is a depth reading on the Deus. On all the programme displays, except for the Basic 2, you will see a horseshoe icon. The left side of the horseshoe indicates a ferrous target. The right side indicates a likely non ferous/good target. The more that side is shaded in the higher the target is. The less shading, then the deeper it is. I tiny touch of shading at the very top means it is deep. Also, if you hear a reasonably clear signal, but no numbers pop up, then again - quite deep.
Unfortunately, reading the manual will not help too much. Although the manual has 58 pages, the matter of depth indication is dealt with by just three words in brackets within a short, weak sentence on page 27. Experienced detectorists might say, part of the fun is working things out by hands on investigation, but speaking for myself such bare assistance results in much frustration. It would be so much better if those who wrote manuals could try to imagine an eager novice reading the fruits of their labour. To put a little empathy into their writing.
Andy.
i think they could do a lot better........it would save us hrs in the field trying to work out what is going on
