stars = Scottish

triangles = Irish

And as you look at more coins you learn to read the legends

with this coin, the X at about 4 o'clock could only be an Alexander

on the reverse you can clearly see SCOTOR

go to ukdfd and type in the SCOTOR

the rest is look and match :)

Usefull info....add this to your sticky mate.....i did see scotor but had no idea what it was...and couldnt find the stars in me spinks book so that explains that aswell...

Well i have sent a pic to Martin at c scope and told him that he can use this pic for an advert for the c scope 3mx. I am waiting for a reply :) I woke up smilling this morning and i still have not found a better example of this coin :O) will this need recording to FLO?

Jay, break this down please mate, I did get that it was scottish from reading about hammered but the rest still learning.
SCO-TOR-VIT-REX
SCO = scotland
TOR= land again maybe ?
VIT or VII = ?
REX= KIng

Never mind hey :) i took it to FLO today and they loved it, i also took along the AWl i found the other day so that is being dated :O) i will get them back next week. I am glad i went they even give me a portable antiquities and treasure annual report 2007 book B-)
