If you can be sure of the ownership details and that the stream is not a protected watercourse such as a SSSI, go for it. Years ago i found a very nice James 1st Sixpence buried in the gravel under a bridge. Of course there was an awful lot of junk to wade through ,but the glint of that coin made it all worthwhile.

The streams in question go horizontally between each field within the farmers boundaries and come from under the main road, so are all within his land, none of them are on the borderline with another farmers field on the other side of it (that's how they are on my other permission) most of these fields at my new permission seem to be separated by streams and bridges than hedges.. really is a odd but cool permission which believe it or not the first time was confusing to search. I don't have a a set of say 8 four sided fields, they go all over the place, in all shapes and sizes with different interesting features in each one. There is mini woods dotted allover it too. Will try get some pictures. ::g

I have always detected stream beds on any permissions, but have so far never found anything. Have found stuff on the banks of rivers and streams, but nothing in the beds except junk. :-(
Recent finds: Papal Bulla of Clement V, Mary Groat, James 1st Scottish 20p, Republican Silver Denarius 130BC, Trajan Silver Denarius, Edward VII Hammered Shilling.
