Cheers Nev,
I will certainly be in your area at some point. I bought the C Scope 4PI today. I had been tracking one on ebay and came to a deal with the chap called Danny who is selling it. I got on really well with him on the phone and is is from Bridlington. He has invited me up at some point to do a bit of detecting with him on the beach, so once the longer days are with us, I shall give him a call. No doubt I will bump into some of you guys at some point. Many thanks for all of the advice. Danny is not a member of this forum, but now he knows about it, I guess that he will be soon!

That is one thing that puzzled me Sean, I suppose it is down to cost as waterproofing would drive up the price. It is still a very good machine and you get a lot of depth for your money.
The White's dual field is a great machine, I have had the original Whites Surfmaster PI for nearly 20 years and it is still going strong, I am now using a non waterproof Crossbow Classic PI but do not think that will last as long.

Cheers Ray. I went for the C Sope in the end based on advice that has been given. If the performance is as good as suggested, I won't be disapointed. I will get the control cover to avoid surf splash though.

Where are you from as I'm looking to beach detect a couple times a month , I'm from derby .
Hi Spencer,
I am near Kettering, Northants. I plan to go to my nearest coast to begin with which is Hunstanton on the wash. I know Steve Ling from this forum is up for a bit of this also, so perhaps we could meet up at some point to do a bit of beach detecting. I believe that there are cockle beds just round the corner from Hunstanton, so there should be plenty of wet sand!!

You will not be disappointed with the CS4PI, Bainsey another East Coast lad was detecting with me at Bridlington using one and I was very impressed with how it performed

Cheers Machinist! I can't wait to get out there and give it a go!
Great machine,Bainsey helped me too.make sure you have a good spade and be prepared to dig, dig, dig.First couple of visits I was giving up at 8 to 12".(having used my viking b4)
The coil cover is to stop you wearing through the coil itself,if you are "rubbing it on pebbles" etc.,the coil is waterproof with out it!.if you are worried about your control box getting wet ,(never been a prob 4 me.bit of cling film.also control box does come off and you can mount on belt or around your neck.
Best of luck......
Same old MIDAS,Just been resurrected!!

Good news about you ordering your new PI machine,if it comes before Easter and the weather gets people down onto the beach it may well be worth your while going down next tuesday after the holiday to give it a try.But be warned they are certainly different from a normal VLF detector

Thanks for the tips there Midas. I propbably will use the cling film tip. I normally wrap a plasic bag around my Tesoro when I am out in the field on wet days for the same reason I have begun to realise that I am entering a different realm of detecting to that that I am used to. With my silver Sabre Plus, I very rarely have to go beyond 8". I guess that must be the starting point with a PI machine!!

Thanks Mega B. I have actually got the week off following the easter weekend, so I am praying the machine will turn up and that there is a ruddy great storm the night before I go, so the beach gets properly stripped back!! I am expecting it to be a steep learning curve, although, I always run my Tesoro on max sensitivity and discrimination on 1and tend to hear most things, so I am hoping the transisition won't be too painful!
Well its been some time since I started this thread. I didn't keep the CS4PI for very long, as for the limited times I was using it, I struggled to get a proper handle in the PI concept. I have though recently bought a Minelab Excalibur Sword. Any tips on this would be appreciated.
I think the PI makes perfect sense, but you just have to accept the digging.
I use the Excalibur now. I did start with a PI but my nearest sand is infested with iron. You will be missing stuff but you also will have a more reliable tone to distinguish between targets.
My advice..
Disc on,
Disc and tab set full turn left.
Vol. full.
Dig everything. I have a few rings that surprised me with their signals.
Good luck.
Many thanks Pav and Lord Lovel for the tips there.
I will give your settings a go when I get a chance Pav. My land machine is a Deus with both 9 & 11" coils. Not bad on the beach, but doesn't really get the depth I would like and a bit pants on the wet.
