Don't think its a woggle. But could be a team ring ,possible made by the lost wax process.
Interesting!.
Notice the cross's are different, with one, a cross of lorain, the other a standard cross.

It certainly points to that direction. Now to find out if oxford have a shield with 2 vertical lines in a shield. I'll check it out later today. Thanks for that ::g

hi... I think that there is a distinct possibility that the wearer was involved in two boat races hence the double horizontal lines on one shield... if i were a Cambridge graduate i would not want a ring with the Oxford arms on it... I know that all this is conjecture... Another clue as to the age is the font used, a bit or research will tell you what the font is and when it first came into popular use ... so you can put a max age on the ring... then there are the apparent initials above one of the shields... so now you have initials and a date!!! so coupled with the possibility the wearer was in two successive boat races it strikes me that just a little more research of Cambridge boat crew names could reveal the name of the wearer... its all part of a days work for me!!!

Thanks very much for the research, much appreciated.
Its certainly a strange one. The missus tested it for silver and it turned black were as if it was silver it would turn red. Now ok its not silver but when she brought it home and showed me the black patch were it has eaten the metal, I gave it a quick rub and the black came off and the metal is still shiny and untouched lol. Beats me what its made of :-/

The Ring looks silver to me, but maybe a debased Silver, First test I ever do on any rings etc is put a magnet over them. That rules out obvious bad metals, Aluminium is also obvious to tell just from Weight. Cupro Nickel mix maybe?

hi tomo if you let me have the initials I will complete the research ... assuming they are initials ... and then you can turn that bit of silver into gold!!! from the reward you'll get for finding it!!!

I think something has been there but now too worn to make anything out. Would be fantastic to return it.
Someone else suggested it could be a rower from Durham. A few people from Durham have rowed for Oxford in the past and would explain the reason it was found here.

It looks totally silver that the odd thing. Not magnetic. Not aluminium for sure. I would agree with a debased silver maybe's.
