I would rather go for the Souvereign GT with the bigger WOT coil for the beach.

At least you have disc and yeh it will go less deep then a PI in the disc mode( although in the all metal mode I think the GT goes at least as deep as a PI detector)
The time you save with not digging every hairpin I rather spent going for the lesser deep, good signals.
With the WOT coil I'm also diggin coins at 13 inch.

When I do hit a hotspot I switch my GT over into the all metal mode, that way you have some extra depth to.

Minelab Excalibur 2, 10 inch coil

Geting coins at a couple of foot deep is stretching it for even the best PI's so take that with a pinch of salt.

If you could let us know the make and model before committing then we could give you some idea if you are getting a decent make or an ebay Chinese heap of junk.

Good luck

I bought a dual field a few weeks back and i have not used my Sov or CTX on the beach since, OK you dig everything at first but i am just starting to tell good signals from iron by the sharpness and size of the signal (im still digging crap but not as much LOL). A good scoop (Muck the diggers are top class) is a god send as digging targets in the wet sand is easy and quick anyway. I bought a book called "The whites Surfmaster PI Dual Field by C. Clynick" and it has a lot of good info in there about settings for different parts of the beach and target signals, how to tell the signal differance which after a few sessions digging allsorts started making sence . Big bonus is that even if you put it down in the sand or drop it in the water it don't matter as you just rinse it off at home with the hosepipe. I really luv it.
Another bonus is that i sent it to Whites for a check out and test, 2 days only and it was back fully serviced and ready for the winter beach sessions. fantastic backup service.

You have got a bargain there, well done. It will give you the chance to try a Pi to see if you get on with them without spending a fortune ::g
