Budget descriminating beach detector

I use a Laser scout which is great on the dry and the damp, but chatters a bit on the wet stuff.

I use a XP GMP inland but it's to sparky on the beaches I goto

Hey I am looking for a budget detector for the beach and was looking at the cs4pi and was wondering on anyone's opinion and how much extra it would cost for a machine that can descriminate against iron. Any ideas appreciated

Why not consider the Garrett AT Pro, great for dry sand, wet sand, and in the sea up to 10 feet submerged.

Is the at pro actually good on wet sand for you? Don't you get chattering or problems? As its still single frequency.

Wondered about this myself.
We could not use our AT pro's on the wet sand due to falsing all the time.
Great machine everywhere else.

I had AT pro went berserk on wet sand, but fantastic on the dry sand and inland

I have no problems with mine on any of the beaches I hunt on a daily basis.
Was in the sea today Mar Menor, perfect, just the water a little cold lol
On the way home stopped off at another beach, found € 10.30 on the wet sand in less than an hour.

I Use Pro mode, coin, or zero settings, sensitivity 2 from full, will pick a Euro coin at 12 inches deep no problem. In my experience, ground balancing correctly, and often is the key to success. Sometimes I get slight chatter in the surf, but nothing to stop me hearing the good signals.

Maybe the AT Pro is not so well suited to UK beaches, I don´t know, but here in Spain I am very happy with it, and I don´t have to dig any iron

What sort of depth did you get on wet sand with them settings on at pro?

Just to chime in with my thoughts. I have had both aforementioned machines but like others had to sell the CS4PI again as it did astonish me how much iron I was digging up when I started to use it. Maybe I was a bit naive thinking that the beach wasn't as iron infested as it was but unfortunately the 4pi wasnt for me. I sold the 4pi and kept the Sovereign GT.

My advice to you is that if you are really keen on a 4pi get a lend of one from a friend to trial it out first or buy secondhand so at least that way if you go to sell it again you will get 90% of your money back. They are deep machines no doubt about that. Any good finds I made with the 4pi were astonishingly deep but for me I suppose the GT had me spoiled in that I knew its every squeak and tone so had a very good idea of what i'd found before I dug it up. The Sovereign really is a great beach machine. Heavy yes as Glen says but I use a harness with mine and it really helps.

Depth wise you will lose a few inches between a good pi and a Sov on a WOT or SEF coil but there is your dilemma, which characteristics in a beach detector do you prioritise?

The cs4pi does kind of have accidental discrimination but it takes time to realise that very loud strong long tones aren't worth digging they're big or iron small sharp tones usually are small rings or coins etc.

Hi Guys as i have mentioned many times i'm an avid advocate of PI machines on the Beach i have either owned or tried them all those who use them regularly know when to dig and when to walk away there are distinct sounds Loud large signals iron Double ping nail fish hook wire Crisp signals always goodies my past post have shown all my results without a doubt the best pi i ever owned was the Crossbow Classic a fool to sell my current surfmaster finds the goodies but not as deep as the crossbow i bought an Etrac as those who know me from the beach seemed to be finding well with them but to be honest i found more with my old fisher 1235 x2 i hasten to add i hate screens i prefer to hear the tones not walk around aimlessly looking at numbers i do rate the sovereign but my choice is pi all the way ok i dig plenty of iron but remember always check your holes ive had many a ring or coin resting or trapped beneath and as we all know unless the coil passes over it you are not going to hear it Slow and Low the way to go.......................Happy New Year to All
