It Might be worth taking it back to basics to rule out some potential problems 
I would try ,
1/ turn the remote on whilst holding the coil at waist height , wait for the coil to flash ,
2/ then turn on the headphones
3/ then pick you program and tweak as necessary
4/ drop the sensitivity down if it chatters ( I use dues fast only and drop it down to 87)
5/ change the frequency
6/ reinstall the chosen version / update
If your still getting chattering and your confident your not on an iron infested part of your land you, might have a faulty coil
I would try ,

ive lowered the ground balance manually to 80 using elliptical coil with hot programme finding small really small pieces of lead and a Edward 3rd half penny so confident that if I put the coil over something good I'll hear it bring on the plough!
