Deus Chattering

Post by okodenga1 »

I am currently detecting on a site where the ground index fluctuates between about 70 and 90. When at 90 the Deus 4.0 works perfectly with program 6 Deep and with Gary’s Ultimate program. When at 70 however the Deus chatters continuously making it almost unusable.
I have tried decreasing sensitivity and also increasing silencer – to no avail. I have also tried all relevant Deus standard programs. Can anyone advise me on how I can reduce the chattering? There are no power lines within miles, and I turn my mobile off when detecting in this field.

Try going into GB then expert, then using + - notch out the GB from 60 to 90
It should now run quieter.

Here in the US, Usually the higher the frequency, The quieter the machine. The new HF Elliptical coil was exactly what I needed for searching around invisible electric fences for pets.

Are you using tracking for the GB?

If so, I would say set your GB to 90 manually. I have personally seen this first hand, when first using the large 13" coil, only in hindsight, did I read the troubleshooting notes in the manual. A return visit to the same site without modifying the GB allowed the machine to operate normally. Having the GB too low causes my Deus to chatter incessantly.

Tracking is a great feature. However, a point to note is that there are also some caveats. In sweeping over a target additional times the target is consumed within the overall GB and subsequently lost.

Kind Regards

Thanks Ju - sorry for the late reply; I have just returned from holiday.

Yes, I was using tracking for GB. The field in question has now been seeded so that's out of bounds for the time being. I have another problem field which I will visit in the next week, weather permitting, so I will set GB to Manual as you suggest.

Best Wishes

I confirm what ju.mobile said, Manual not tracking that will smooth out the chatter, but try frequency shift if you feel like experimenting, depends on your ground and other settings

A lot of DEUS users use factory settings, its a machine that works out of the box, but try tweaking things and see what works for you.

Try toggling to different progs when you get a signal before you dig to see the differences, its surprising the different signal responses and can decide on what works for you

Regards Steve

Ok. I would lower the sensitivity down to 80 (no one likes doing this but trust me you will find more). It sounds to me you're on a site with high mineralization and iron contamination. That would explain the wildly fluctuating GB signals. The Deus is 'seeing' everything at once. Mineralization, iron, targets. If you lower the sensitivity, good targets will be locked on to better. Forget mega depth, that's not going to happen on that site. You'll be doing good if you hit targets at 5-6 inches. GB at 90 and use the HOT setting. Remember it's not noise, it's information. If you can't be doing with the constant chatter go for Ultimate. I personally would recommend HOT on your site.

I hope this help. Please PM if you have any questions. ::g

would the faint signals still be heard through the information noise or chatter as it were ? ive got a field that's 3bars on the mineralisation meter and covered in iron of all kinds every swing has sound like static on a radio nearly all the finds are small would leaving the ground balance at 90 and sens at 80 help or would it be best to keep checking and change the ground balance as the reading changes?

Generally speaking I think V4 is sparky compared to V3, the machine has been enhanced as XP try to get more out of it with each update. You have a minus disc now which is reading more and it's always worth seeing if pushing the disc back to the old zero will help reduce chatter (if your running without discrim of course.)

I have a field that's chattery and there's no evidence of EMI, but it's coming from somewhere. It's not always obvious when your in a field, but dropping to 8khz works in the old fashioned way on this particular site.

My mrs is very chattery, I wish I could alter her settings sometimes x;

nope no electrics for miles its only this site its highly mineralised the deus is quiet on other fields I had a cut quarter off this field last year just after more now and think I'm missing the faint signals in the chatter
