Just been out to get the Deus charged up for a spot of detecting and had to wrestle with the charging attachment on the coil again. Its very awkward to get the clip connected tightly enough to get it charging. Sometimes it goes on easy and other times ..... I use some very fine wire wool to clean the two little copper charging points but could not find it this morning. I think those connections have to be really clean. The clip faces awkwardly into the coil itself, seems strange when mostly everything else is thoughtfully designed, Liam ;)

Hi Liam, do you leave the coil cover on when charging,I do and I find it works every time you can hear a click when you fit the attachment to the coil and it fits tight, hope this helps.

I have found that the coil covers are usually causing the problem, on my larger coil the charge clip fits perfect but with the smaller coil the guide strips on the coil cover seem to be slightly out of line causing the spring contacts to miss the charge points on the coil, i take the cover off to charge that.

Verulamium sums it up nicely.

If you have lots of fairly clean smooth land, the big coil is superb. It picks up little stuff as well as the small coil (I've had several cut quarters with it). It has about 50% better ground coverage & has slightly better depth on the bigger items.

It's not so good on very mineralised, trashy sites (like a lot of busy roman sites). This is mainly as it's picking up several signals at once & it's hard for both the machine & the user to work out whats going on. You also need to think about the mechanics - bigger coils are harder to use on rougher ground, stubble etc. Pinpointing is a bit harder initially with the big coil, but once you are used to it, it's fine.

I use the big coil more than the small one & have had a lot of stuff with it this year. Mine has paid for itself several times over (or would do if I ever sold anything :) )

Has anyone experienced problems with the cold so far?
Twice this week i've had"No Coil" on the telecommand of my deus, both times it was a bit cold, but not -5°c,and both times the coil was sufficiently charged, and both times it cleared up when I went into the sunshine, can any of you shed any light on this???

No probs so far with my machine and I store it in the garage with everything else. In extremely cold weather the LED displays on some electronic equipment can stop working, so I hope that does not happen. I would carefully check all connections as over time and much use, these can start to come loose, does not hurt to undo them anyway to clean off the layers of grime and mud and lubricate any nuts and bolts, Liam ;)

hi all,

been a deus owner for only 7 weeks and am very happy with its performance so far using the 9'' coil.

tried the large coil for the 1st time on short grass and land that had already had a rally on so i knew the finds/signals would be very sparse, i was detecting with 2 friends who were using fisher f75's in all metal so i knew it would be a good test.
i used program 5 = gold maxx, and the ground was hard compacted clay.
i got a definate good signal which the f75 didnt get = a 1inch brass item at 10'' deep.
the f75 got a 'dig me' signal, the deus 13'' coil said iron, which it was.

this continued a few times and overall i am very happy with the depth of the 13'' deus coil especially as i know the f75 is a deep machine, the ground coverage and extra weight is also brilliant.
hope that helps, mark.

I have used both coils and find no significant difference in performance between the two, the large coil is good for extra ground coverage on pasture or rolled soil, it will pick the small stuff up so don't worry about loosing small finds as it will still get them.
It is however slightly heavier than the stock coil so if you are detecting all day it may ware you down more, amongst the iron I would stick with the stock.

I think the large coil was originally intended and developed for use with the low frequency's especially the 4khz for finding deeper targets to match some of the competition, I have not done much of that type of detecting with it yet so cant comment on it's performance but it may come into its own and outshine the stock in that particular situation.

I have been using the large coil for 5 months. I only use it on pasture , using the goldmaxx programme with 12 or 8k. I was told that the large coil was made for those frequencies. I found that using it on stubble and ploughed was unstable and didn't improve the finds.
