Evan I appreciate the input matey I do. I towed a spade around today and that was the best tip ever! Cleared loads of targets I would have missed so good times!

I need to practice the pointer because I dunno what its doing really. Damn thing just seems to beep all the time. Lol

I aim to head out there today / tomorrow and try again so hopefully will have some more data. Tomo can I just add - a huge thank you for your pictures and information on this and the other post. They have really helped to give me an understanding of the beach and how it works rather than wander around overwhelmed. Thank you!

Well done on finding "loads of targets I would have missed" so as you said "good times!", its always good to hear people doing well. But if weather there was like here not sure if you deserve a medal for being out detecting or locking up.

I have only known chalk inland where it is solid, Fred oboviously knows that part of the coast by his comment about targets on their sides in the fissures or piddock holes. The best advice I can give anybody who beach detects is if they meet a chap called Fred, see what he does as he is a master of the art of beach detecting ::g

Regarding struggling with pinpointing with the detector, different machines pinpoint at different parts of the coil - with a lot its more or less where the shaft joins the coil but with others it can be a fair bit further forward. Do some tests at home, jut put a coin under a sheet of newspaper and try to pinpoint it, after a few attempts you should establish where the sweet spot for pinpointing is on the Equinox (there might also be some videos out there showing pinpointing). But as its such a new machine with very limited numbers available it will be some time before we get a good base of experienced users on here to provide advice, keep at it and you will become one and be able to help the others.

You say "I need to practice the pointer because I dunno what its doing really. Damn thing just seems to beep all the time." That can often be a sign of the battery running low. Try a new battery (and not one like the new one I bought a few months back which was worse than the one I had been using for several months B| ) as this often cures that problem. No idea what you are like with the kit but mine gets its share of mud, if yours is the same check there is not a very small bit of foil attached to the pointer :))

Good advice from Saffron regarding new pinpointer battery.
Another tip to try with a falsing pinpointer is to remove the battery, leave the compartment open and put the pinpointer in a warm airing cupboard overnight.
Similarly the battery contacts can benefit from packing the screw-top of the battery compartment with a thin piece of plastic,
I have a Garrett (non-waterproof) that became a pain for falsing and it was mainly damp causing it.
A night in the airing cupboard cured it, until the damp got in again.

I replaced it with the Carrot but keep it as a spare.
Minelab CTX 3030 and E-Trac. XP Goldmaxx power v4. Garret carrot. Evolution spade.

Hehe aye truly loads of targets. In truth most were trash but I do it mainly for the peace and quiet away from society rather than a hunt for riches :)

The propointer is probably just complete inexperience as I'm new to detecting and haven't ever used it in the field before. I will have a practice in the garden so I know a bit more about what I am doing. On that note the same applies to detector pinpointing too - thanks for the tips on mapping all out in the comfort of my home first - Good plan!

Yes the weather here was interesting the beach froze solid under me so the sand was like ice skating which was fun and the freezing rain a sheer delight. The main thing was that I was toasty in my gear and had quality isolation as no one would venture out due to storm emma/beast from East malarkey hehe :) now I finally have my detector, nothing was going to stop me getting out there, least of all God!
My detector was covered in ice, as was ice but a lovely day none the less :)

Thanks Wigeon too by the way, that's super useful to know about the dampness affecting the pointers as I'm pretty sure wit my nonstop wetwork it's bound to happen soon!

Hi, very interesting post. I also live in Kent and have contacted Canterbury and Thanet council concerning detecting along their coastline to which they have both replied with useful information. Thanet council stated that the beaches are covered by SSSI and that the chalk beds must not be disturbed.
