Hi FileyLad,
As Tomo said, she was probably having a bad day. Most of the people I have spoken to when out detecting have been genuinely interested in the finds.

I had someone have a bit of a rant over leaving holes on the beach (not by me) and my response was for him to show me where I have been leaving holes - None! He then started going on about stealing from the beach! I was polite and said that most of the time the coins do not even pay for the petrol to the beach and back and all the jewellery find are reported to the local police station. I did manage to show him a nice broken bottle that I had dug I said that at least I am clearing the beach of not only rubbish but potential hazards including fishing lines and hooks. At that point, a lady with a dog came up (she had been listening to the conversation) and told the man to b****r off and leave me alone! I was so surprised! He said something that I cannot print here and walked off.

The short of it is that there is always someone having a bad day and just need a rant from time to time. Take it with a pinch of salt and get back to posting those finds from Filey.
All the best. Matt

I would probably also have a rant if I found holes ... unfortunately for joe public they cant differentiate between decent tectorists who dont leave hol;es, and other people who for what ever reason do!!! I know that that rag and lug diggers dont always fill their holes.... keep diggin and keep fillin ... Happy days

I would've told her to wind her neck in (politely of course). What about all the trash you find, pick up and take home. Ignore the old bat and get back on that beach! [:)
