Cheers Mrix, i checked the CTX it seems to have the Saltwater option which i assume gets added in the update. Missed Joan Allen (shut at 5 - will try tomorrow), thanks guys.

Edit ...

Connected the CTX to Xchange2 and there was an update, downloaded and added it, CTX said updating firmware (i wasnt asked if yes/no), it went to the Minelab screen then back to detect screen - timing it now.

Edit2:

29 mins and shutdown :(

hmmm not to good for a nearly £2000 machine .you would certainly expect it to be fully tested before it ever left the factory . not the first time this has happened ,it certainly put me off buying one a few months back ,the last thing you want is to be sending bits back

I wiill say its not a brand new machine but is only 3months old.

All the above tests the charger and CTX stated the battery was fully charged.

Heres a weird thing ... i put 8 new AA batteries in the pod and tried that - got all of 3minutes, put the rechargebale one back on (which had sat on the charger for an hour) and the CTX has been running none-stop for 90+mins and is still going. The battery has always stated its fully charged now its behaving like it is perhaps? Will leave it on as im timing it.

Edit:

Ran 5 hours with no issues - could it be something was reset?
Will give it another field test tomorrow :)

Fingers crossed

Hi all, a little update on the CTX, took it out for a couple of hours today and it ran flawlessly, found 10 objects (nothing of any real interest) in a field we have done extensively, the deepest target was 12inches. Im using Gordons Tadpole2 program.

The battery? issue - im wondering if the battery has been "overcharged" or something and the Alkine set somehow reset something as now the rechargeable battery is behaving normally and discharging correctly etc??? Thought i would mention that incase someone else comes across the same issue.

On the CTX - im LOVING this machine, it feels so natural to swing, its finding little objects deep and is a natural progression from the Explorer range, you get those little squeeks and grunts much the same, very easy "ground mapping in your head" kinda sounds, the real targets let you know when theyre there, theyre much easier to lock onto when beside iron i find than my Explorer II, the pinpointing is precise, its a joy to use :)

Happy again :)

Good to hear your sorted Cobs, I only use tadpole 2 on land and beach and to be honest it's made me bone idle about wanting to learn anything else as I'm getting great finds with this programme! Maybe one day!!!!. Any future probs if you get them, ring Pete at Joan Allen's their service is excellent. ::g :D

Hi Scratcher,

I only put Tadpole2 on to see what the changes were TBH, i do like to tweak my machines, always ran my EX II flat out 32 in manual on Ch4 with a NEL Tornado, it wont make me lazy but sure is handy to start out with when you look at the discrim on the other modes.

Plus i want to start GeoHunts and use FindPoints/XChange 2 maps n stuff, its exactly what i needed to tidy my Treasure Hunting reports up and is defo gonna help take me to places of interest. :)

Any other issues i will defo ring Pete dont worry, im thinking it was a battery issue of some sort and i seem to have cured it.

I'd give Pete a ring tomorrow just so he's aware of the problem as it could be a software or hardware issue. He's a top bloke and will do what he can to help. Good luck
