That hole in the stem is stupidly large for 4 wires .. If there isn't a connector on the end then that is a case of poor design .. I hate to say it but it looks like they've knocked these up so cheaply that even if they have to replace half of them they'll still be quids in

It wont be of much comfort to you andyb, but I can't find any other instances of this online.

Touch wood its a one off incident but I suspect more will come to light, the surface area of the stem that is missing due to the hole is far to much and it loses a lot of strength through it, it does not help that it is at the point where most of the stress will occur.

Makro are usually quick off the mark and I'm sure Cavit will have responded by tomorrow so I will update the thread accordingly.

I really hope this gets sorted

No unfortunately not, I used to have a teknetics eurotek, cscope cs3mxi and a cscope 4pi for all the different environments I detect in but sold them all to get this as it does all the jobs pretty well.

andyb wrote: Yeh it is a big one this as it has severed wires in the control panel. It's not a fix like the coil bolt where they can send a new bit out it needs either replacing or professionally repairing and I don't particularly want to foot the bill to send it back to Turkey :(

I will keep everyone updated
Did you buy direct? If not return it to the retailer under the sale of goods act.
If you bought direct suggest they send you a replacement and they cover the shipping costs. ::g

Hi JC, yeh I bought direct. Just waiting for Cavit to respond to my email. I'm hoping that's what happens as me trying to repair it with any parts they might send out will surely void my warrenty even if it is an easy fix. Definalty a design error that hole only needed to be 6mm maximum.

A little update for you all, Cavit has been in touch. He has seen the footage and sent it to the correct department to view it and decide an outcome

personally i dont see how the tube gets any stress at that point as its quite far down the collar of the control box, so if anything i would of thought it would snap at that point just under the collar.
so im guessing that has been put together with an already cracked stem at the point of manufacture.
but i have every faith in makro to sort it out for you mate

good luck

*******UPDATE*******

Just to update everyone, Cavit has emailed me this morning and has said that he is sending me the full system from battery box to LCD unit and too where the top section of stem clicks in. This means problem is solved however he hasn't responded to whever or not he believes its a design fault or a one off. Should be here with me Thursday or friday.

Hi Andy, That's a good and rapid solution to your problem ::g Let's hope it was simply a one-off occurrence which doesn't reappear elsewhere down the ownership line. Get back out there and find 'em mate. Tried my 'replacement' coil from Cavit yesterday (1 hr) and it is much better using '85' sensitivity and resulting in Cartwheel Penny and very nice Victorian silver groat.
Stay lucky ---- and on the Humber Foreshore,................stay mucky!! :)) Cheers ss47

Hi Andy
just watched your vid tonite after reading your post, I really felt gutted for you as the Racer was packaged well and convinced me to try and sell a couple of my machines to get the racer, which I have not managed to do yet, hopfuly the replacements are good quality and help install confidence with the racer. Best wishes and happy huntimg mate. ::g
