A Reluctant Detectorist vs. a Stubborn completionist
Hello and welcome to another exciting outing with your two detectorist desperadoes. Pull on your boots, wrap up warm and join us for another treasure filled outing in sub zero Derbyshire. We've been in this field for the last 3 times and I fancied a change. However Ironman is unable to leave a field regardless of what is in it. I tried to tempt him into the 'gold ring field' (a gold ring has been thought to have been lost in this field by the landowner's wife.) I also tried to tempt him into another field which we haven't been in yet. He wasn't having any of it. It was like trying to get a kid away from an arcade when they've still got some money left. I eventually consented and got out the masons lines and prepared for a long day and suspected very little finds. How wrong I was...
The Finds Just Keep Coming
Every once in a while you get a field that just keeps giving. I don't know if the detector was set up in the ideal setting or I'm almost getting to grips with the machine (after 2 and a half years) or the field was just full of goodies. Either way, every now and again I was getting: BEEP, BEEP wow! There's my first silver it was a Victorian threepence. Even at this point I was happy. When you make a good find, early on, it's much easier to enjoy the rest of the day. My next row I hit the Lizzy half groat. I couldn't believe it. I was talking to my self, "Oh please be a hammered, please be a hammered." With a feeling of elation I decided to eat a quarter of a Christmas cake. This was all I could find to bring to eat. I even left a bit of icing for a mouse I'd startled while clearing some logs.
It Can't be Another One! Can it?
Well, How could the second half beat that? I got straight back to it and coins kept turning up along with buttons amongst loads of lead blobs. I'm pretty sure there was lead smelting going on in this field. Eventually another two way high sounding audio called to me. DIG ME, DIG ME it said to me. Who am I to refuse? Yes it gets lonely out there and it's not uncommon to speak to our detectors. Sometimes it progresses to more than just small talk but I digress... I dug down and there blinking in the sunset was George V on a sweet sixpence. What a day! As the sun began to set I felt compelled to do one more row and I'm so glad I did. Half way across, a quiet bleep-bleep made me dig with an anticipation I can only describe as hammysensual. There he was Elizabeth's kind-hearted father Henry VIII. How was this happening? Four silvers in one day! That's like winning the lottery (like a tenner) for us in Derbyshire. HORRRRAY!!!!!!
