Loving the thread, although as a newbie my 'average finds' would be above the iron nails and ring pulls and 'good finds' would be above everything else.

Here's the details:
Date of hunt: Sunday 5th of February
Location: Derbyshire. (D____'s Dig 5: Field 1, Barn Ruin)
Ground: pasture (med mineralization, high iron contamination, low hot rocks)
Settings: GMP
Detector: XP Deus with 11" coil. (3.2 version)
Hunt Time: 7 hours

Sometimes You Just Get a Feeling...
Hello to another journey into the great outdoors. Wrap up well, it's only 1 degree Celsius. Pack your sandwiches and bring a flask of something because we're going for it! I awoke at about 8:30, chomping at the bit, ready to get out there and make some finds. I look forward to our Sundays all week and the day had finally arrived. Ahhh to be out there in the open air with the cries of circling birds of prey high up in the skies above the beautiful Peak District. My detector by my side and Ironman smashing the ground in frustration in the mistaken presumption that there might be a find under natural rock... x;

I can't explain it but I really felt I'd find something good today. I wasn't sure what but maybe it's that positive attitude that makes you try that little bit harder or makes you stay out in the field a little longer. Today I was determined to unearth something that had laid hidden for the past hundred years or longer. What can be more rewarding than unearthing something that would have been lost forever?

Some Interesting Findings Regarding the GMP Setting...
I finished my first area to no avail and decided I'd try another area I'd already done with the GMP setting. I've read so many good things about this setting from many far more knowledgeable detectorists than myself singing its praises. I've found it's not as deep as some custom settings I've used or made but here's the thing it's took me years to realise. Hallelujah! A revelation! No it's not the deepest setting but I'll tell you what: it's the most reliable, stable and easy to use setting straight out of the box! XP I could kiss you l;.

It has taken me so long to realise it's not all about depth. It's a very fine balance between many factors such as descrimination, reactivity, sensitivity and taking into account what the soil conditions are like. Once you realise this, life is so much better. The niggling self doubt: What if I'm missing stuff? Which setting should I use here? The settings are there. Yes, you can tweak, there's the beauty of it but in the end the Devs. have been honing this beauty for years. If GMP can pull a hammy from that depth in ground with quite a bit of mineralization and iron contamination I take my hat off to 'em. HORAYYY!!! GMP I'm sorry I left you for so long. It's like I've been unfaithful to you but I'm back now to make things right. I've seen the error of my ways. Let's get back together and make the magic happen like the old days...

DeusDiggerDiary Goes You Tube!!!
Well it's finally happened. From sacks full of encouragement from my readers (well 1 actually) they suggested I made a video. I've made a reaction video of when I take the hammered coin out of the earth. I hope you like the enthusiasm :)) There's live digs and clod reveals and all sorts. After you view it I would consider you my detecting buddy if you would hit Subscribe (yes I'm down with the lingo). That way you can join me on each dig. I hope you, kind reader and this fine community will support me in this. I will keep the Diaries and videos coming too ::g Have a look at the finds pictures and see my video " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for commenting ::g Yes, I think there might be. I've had 3 silvers from there. Could there be a gold? Mind you on Sunday I think I'm back to the pub garden for part 2 of the coin frenzy. (see day 60)

Lovely hammie!! How many have you had now?

See you were rewarded for going back to GMP. I was considering being unfaithful to this programme once I'd had my Deus 2 or 3 months but I've decided I love it. I can't be bothered messing with stuff all the time. If it isn't broken why change? Guess I'm the faithful type ;)

As we know the grass isn't always greener, and certainly isn't paved with more gold :D

Good luck on the next hunt ::g
