No, no. You got me wrong here. If I detect the beach during holiday season I always walk down the beach far, far away from where the holiday makers are. The last thing I want is confrontation. I see it like going fishing. Get away from people and enjoy your own company. When I detect I want to be on my own and I don't want to disturb people enjoying their holiday. I never detect near people. I want a quiet spot.sweepstick47 wrote: Tue Aug 03, 2021 5:53 pm This is a very old thread! - In general, detectorist keep away from beaches at prime holiday periods. They may on occasions, arrange to arrive very early in the morning and leave well before the holiday makers start to show up or wait wait until the beach is clear of holidaymakers for the day.
Enjoying some downtime with family on the beach is something many people look forward to and enjoy so the presence of a detectorist arriving on the scene is understandably never welcome and viewed as inconsiderate. It is also an invitation for inquisitive children (and older kids) to tag along asking questions, being distracting and possibly behaving badly and being a nuisance.
Detecting without considering others is against our code of responsible conduct with the added possibility that it could become confrontational. So if contemplating a bit of summer beach detecting, it's wise to schedule a day and time when the beaches are liable to be deserted.
Remember to that you are an ambassador of the hobby when out detecting so be polite when engaged in conversation by members of the public, they could be the key to your next inland farm site!Regards ss47
Just saying.
