Thats because the iron level is set at 0.If you want to hear the iron turn the iron volume up when in the field.

I've said this b4 but deeper targets don't always show on the vdi.... listen for the good 2 way tones, also the analogue bar at the top, also sometimes if you scrape the soil with your foot you can get vdi numbers...

Hello Sugar

What coin are you talking about ? I haven't seen one of yours yet. Would love to though.
Personally, why would you want to be able to hear iron trash? if you were listening to this you would be more inclined to dig it.

I managed 1hr out with mine today and found a 50p (old larger type) & 2p ! before digging for these target I stroked the PinPointer over to find them 1cm & 2cm down as I was expecting foil when i just scraped a little bit of the grass and topsoil off. The deepest was a coil of wire about 6" in G-Maxx prog 5 with no changes so annoying when it was giving me a VDI in the 80's Arhh.

Sending my Remote & coil back for RMA tomorrow, hope there is some change or better luck for me second time round.

Iron trash/noisy ground tends to indicate habitation.Habitation equals finds. ;)

Sugar

Me thinks, working without a ID sometimes isn't a big loss as the Tone given is quicker than keep having to glance for your VDI number. Though the horseshoe is handy if you get that displaying to prevent trash.

I also find the wetter the ground the poorer the detection, where I spent an hour out today was near to being marshy with the amount of rain the last week.

Not spent enough time with it but I agree that the depth is not impressive on the standard coil, either your Etrac has cleaned up good and propper like my Euro Ace or somethings dodgy with a batch.

I will be having my coil tested at regtons, so will be interesting to know if any issues are found. When I get it back I will commit myself to working the fields.

Scrape ..To be honest ...If I was you ...I would just invent some weird formula on the deus something that is unique and untried ...something that in time would be known as the Scrape Program B-) ......Every time a long term user gives their expertise on how they would run the machine it just dosent seem to be good enough advice even though their finds tally are mountainous...I know this is a debating forum and all opinions are welcome but to be controversial for controversial sake is taking it too far

I also find the wetter the ground the poorer the detection, where I spent an hour out today was near to being marshy with the amount of rain the last week.

your statement above is just one example :)

kind regards
Greg

Thanks Greg

I understand your reasoning of what i say. I would like to see more suggestions & configuration settings from Time Served Deus v2 users. This way use newbies to the Deus and to detecting would stop myelf and maybe other assuming what is best.

Simlples =))

Steven, you can use the edit button on any of your own posts for a short period, to correct typos or edit the text in any way, saves you having to do another post. I have to agree with Greg, the Deus is ALREADY configured by the Norfolk Wolf himself to suit the UK soil conditions.
Just get out there with the Deus like (nearly) everyone else and put in the hours of detecting. I appreciate the weather has not been too kind to you but you now need to actually use the machine in all sorts of ground conditions and not to be looking to change settings that have proved to work so well for the majority of Deus users. You can tweak the settings as you go on, but I fear that all of the programmes and every type of setting are getting you bogged down.
Wet ground overnight will tend to make the soil more conductive to signals, so it is a good time to get out next day as you will/should find that the tones are coming through louder and clearer.
Good luck anyway, let us know if Nigel finds something wrong with your machine. I am off out again in 10 mins for a few hours around soft stubble, lots of viccies and one weird French coin yesterday (says centimes on it, size of old penny)

I love my deus, i would only swap it for one other machine and i cant find one anywhere. :(
My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.
