We all have machines and its a big bonus when someone posts up a find with a machine that we also use and we can read about the settings used, coil type, what programme did the business on pasture/plough and at what depth etc. We can ALL learn!
Then there are the rest of us who may be crap at doing an ID :-/ but we LOVE to hear the story behind your successful hunt ::g . If its worth posting up for an ID, then its worth adding the right information and doing your find justice. Should take you an extra 20 seconds.
Lets all unite to spot any really poor ID requests and refer them to this topic.
And finally .... its just good manners?
Thanks, Liam ::g

THANKS JOHN ... =)) =)) =)) =))
Bumped for our evening ID activity .. the pics are improving and also the inclusion of a good scale or modern coin comparison, but it would be a great bonus to include what machine and settings were used, always interesting to members with similar machines, cheers all, Liam ::g

Some very poor ID requests in this evening, lets make a big effort to get the pics of a good quality, a good scale or modern coin comparison and some machine details if possible, takes just an extra 20 secs to get it all together. I have had to request some topics to be resubmitted, so please read the sticky topics that are there in many sections to help members do a good topic, Liam ::g

One tip I have is to take a pic of the object in your hand ... particularily if its not a coin... so you instantly get a view of scale ... and do it outside ... its surprisng what good quality pics you can get with this approach.

Afraid not, would be ideal! Its always a fine line between encouraging members to add that little bit more quality info and at the same time recognising that when we rush to make an ID request after finding a super hammy, roman etc, we can forget to get things right. We have FB for the very informal "wots dis" request and thats fine for those people, but on the forum we want to make it a bit more special and see ID topics that the finders can look back on with pride. On top of that, good sized quality pics and machine/land/settings info can make a great little story and help us all to share the background excitement. There will be those who don't want to get involved in any of that and thats fine, but please do it on Facebook ::g
You don't have to get things perfect, but you do have to make an attempt, Liam :;@

I am thinking that 99% of us get the requirements now...

Machine
Depth
Settings
Signal
Terraine
Picture (max of 3 per day?)
Scale

But would be good if someone could come up with an easy acronym/way for remembering these

The only acronym that I can think of is

D = depth
I = item
S= scale
P= pictures
A = appreciation
T = terrain
C = coil
H = hopes
E = equipment
S = settings

::g
If I was to live to over 300 years old , would I end up in a museum ?
