Deus advice needed please

Post by Malkins »

Afternoon all. I'm sorry if this is a bit of a perennial topic but, being nervous of change, I've soldiered on with Deus v3.2 since purchasing my Deus about six years ago now. It still continues to bring results and over the years I've had over a hundred silvers including sixteen hammereds (no gold) which isn't too bad for this part of the world here in Cheshire. I'm just wondering whether I'm missing out by sticking with 3.2 and whether some of the bespoke programs will only work in later versions. I don't want to upgrade....and then regret it!
Also, where is the best place to find bespoke programs please? Is there a specific thread where these can be located? TIA!

As far as I am aware you can update your detector, try the updates and if you find you don’t like them revert to 3.2
If you are looking for custom programs go onto YouTube and search Gary Blackwell and or Syd adding Deus to the search and you will get several custom programs.

I have 2 machines one running on 4.2 and I have just installed 5.2 on the other, I have HF coils for both.

If you want to have a go with one of mine private message me to make some arrangements.

Strange you should post this as I've just done a review of the HF and older black coils on my Facebook page. I've always used my HF coil since I got it but realised that on many sites it was a bit flaky. So yesterday I got my 2 Deus out and after putting garys Sifter program on the old black coil with 3.2 did a comparison test. While the HF coil did detect my test coins in the garden the signals were a bit flaky. I used Sifter prog on both yet the 3.2 coil returned much better signals on coils and relics, so I'll be sticking with my 3.2 and Gary's sifter prog, although I did turn the discrim up a little.
Another important thing I noticed late in the garden with the 3.2 was the Ground balance. The set balance was showing 90 yet MY ground was showing at 77. I dropped the GB down to 77 to match it and the detector became even more sensitive. I'll be using the HF coil for Gold in France but for the UK I'm sticking with the 3.2

Hi, I've been using V3.2 since getting my machine, with good results. I recently had a constant 'chattering' problem develop, so on advice from the shop where I bought it posted it back to them. They couldn't find anything wrong with the machine/coil, but recommended I should have it upgraded to the latest version software free of charge. (I have the lite version so couldn't do it myself). The view of the very well respected person I spoke to was that Deus update their software for very good reasons, more functions, sorting glitches, refining programmes etc, and that their boffins clearly know what they are doing, spend a lot of time working on improvements and release upgrades for very good reasons. After all, they wouldn't spend their time and money writing free software upgrades unless there was a point. I had it upgraded and it's now fine. I haven't really noticed any difference in the machine itself apart from the volume initially being slightly louder, which they do warn about, but I suppose you can equate it with phone and computer software updates, which we all do as a matter of course. In the end, I suppose it's like a comfy pair of old slippers. If you're happy with them why buy a new pair.

Thanks to all for tips to date. I'll have a look at those sites etc.. i've just done a tally of coins found since Feb and had 152 coppers to 11silvers anout 1 in 14 ratio. Think I'm just getting a bit of the negative psychology cos I've not had silver for a while but probably not doing too bad over all. Six of the silvers are hsmmereds as well.....

Be careful with comparing two different softwares using two different coils, especially when the software in the HF coil is different to the black coil and the X35 coil. Also the HF coil was ignored in the v5.X updates so will be running v4.X.

Back to your question, I don’t know if the v5 softwares makes much difference on the standard black coils as I only run a HF elliptical coil and an X35 11”. What I can say is that I hated the early v5 software but the latest v5.2 is incredible with the X35 coil. I can find coppers with a crystal clear signal at over a pin-pointers depth whilst also finding hammered silver farthings in heavily iron infested areas. I mean really iron infested.

I have no hesitation in recommending it. You can have the best of both worlds too if you like as the Deep programme runs on v3.2 software so you can build some custom programmes on that as a platform if you want to compare. I guess though if you are running a black coil then there isn’t any massive rush to move, the choice is yours ::g
