Permits
Hey friends, I live next to the sea in Northumberland, I have looked at the Crown Estate map and even checked with them about where to detect. But some people on here have said they got there permits to detect on say for instance Bamburgh beach. According to the Crown Estate the permit is there anyway, can more knowledgeable people on here shed a bit light on this. Cheers

even with crown estate areas you still need to be careful were you detect. an example of this is Mablethorpe. im going this weekend and it shows i can detect north of the haven site but the dunes are a nature reserve. when checking the crown estate map also cross ref with google maps but zoom in for it to highlight info that might be relevant. some council's allow detecting and some dont so as they say its a minefield of mixed info. it gets more tricky with SSSI and the likes.

you should never detect in the dunes. Regardless of its SSSI status. Its a very delicate eco system that is easily destroyed by digging.
there isn't one place to find out which beaches you can detect.
Its a mine field.
NT is a blanket ban. Even if its on the Crown Estate
some Crown Estate is leased out and detecting band
some beaches that are not on the Crown Estate are still fine to detect. Depends who owns them
SSSI rarely stop detecting. I know of one river estuary but even then the actual foreshore is fine.
the search button on the left hand side is a Good start.

Hello,
New to Metal Detecting - and new to this board.
I am in Cornwall next week - am I ok to detect on the beach - or do I need some kind of permission?
Thanks
Dave

Hello Dave, Welcome aboard. Do you have a particular beach/area in mind as it may help our knowledgeable members provide an answer

A disservice is no service at all.
Hello Sweepstick47,
We are actually staying in Falmouth - never been there before so can't add anymore detail I am afraid.
I guess it was more of a general question - am I allowed to go on beaches without any kind of permission? I see from the earlier post that dunes are out of bounds - all really good information for a total novice like myself.
Thanks
Dave
