More Horse Harness thingys

Post by Pagan »

A few weeks ago I found an almost complete Hame ( the metal bit around the leather collar that the straps attached to )from a heavy Horse collar, This afternoon in the same field and in the same area I've found what I think is the Head harness ( I'm not a horsey person so forgive me if this is the wrong name) from a Heavy Horse,
Neither the farmer or I can work out as to why they were buried close together ,as we believe both would have been expensive items.
The field in question hasn't been cultivated since the early 1930s when the farmers father bought the farm, and has been used solely for Hay.
Am I correct in my identification?
Any thoughts as to why they were buried ( approx 18 inches) deep well into the clay level šŸ¤·šŸ¼
