Worthing Beach Permission

Post by RAFKeith »

I've just checked the Crown Foreshore maps now that they are online and it turns out that Worthing is not Crown owned! Does anyone know who it's owned by? Is it Worthing Borough Council? If so, it would mean that no one is allowed to detect there! I am getting frustrated already and I've only had my machine a week. I think I'll be making my way into politics again :(

I started my MD hobby under Worthing pier about 35 years ago. No-one used to bother my Dad and I about permission.
Found loads of coins that had fallen through the decking.

Cissbury Ring (not the scheduled bit I hasten to add) was a great place for 303 bullet & cases plus mortar tails. There was an old range of some sorts on one side of the hill.

It's the same at Eastbourne, according to the map the main public beach bit is not covered, till you get to Birling Gap on one side and down near the mariner on the other.

I belive you are allowed to detect on Worthing beach during the autum and winter months, it's on there website somewhere. But please check yourself before going down, i'm not 100% sure and I stick to the areas on the Crown Foreshore permit and other areas I have access.

Thanks guys. I've emailed WBC. I was thinking of getting in touch with the Somersets about the land at West Durrington before it gets dug up. Not sure if they've sold it yet but it would certainly give up some great finds!
