will hi fi head phones work

Post by scotty »

i need to get some new head phones and have read that not all work with all detectors.
why is this . would a good set say out of argos not do the job.
or are detector head phones set for different frequenceys.
any advise on this would be appriciated as dont want to waste money on ones that wont work or miss signals.

thanks adam

this is why i was asking about compatabilitys as would want to use them with new detector. plus with the aceyou really need a volume control.

Hi Scotty, I don't usually post about my own headphones but just wanted to make clear that the CP2's (both superLIGHTS and the LIGHTblues) were developed and tested originally for use with the Xtera and the T2, so the answer is that they will work perfectly well with both the Xtera and the Ace ;)

To my knowledge (I run a small recording studio when not detecting:-)), a jack input is a jack input so you should be able to use any headphones... I recently used my ipod earphones on my Minelab Explorer II just by using a small jack to large jack connector. :)
...why has all the rum gone??

Oneproducer, don't know why, but thats not the case with detector headphones.
I've got two sets of 'proper' detecting headphones for Tesoros that will not work with the E-Trac. :-/

i am no expert but it has something to do with ether the headphones are mono/stereo, (i.e 1 signal to both ear phones, or a different one to both) for music its almost 100% guaranteed they would be stereo but some metal detectors seem to be build with a mono socket for some reason? 8-}

please correct me if i am wrong.... which i probably am :))

It is better to get headphones that are designed for detecting but hifi headphones will work,a couple of things you have to be aware of when buying headphones for detecting is some machines wont allow you to alter the volume so its best to have a volume control on the headphones if possible.Another thing you can find that can cause a problem is the mono/stereo configuration this in a nutshell means you can plug the headphones into one machine and it works fine but when plugged into another detector you wont hear anything so what does this mean well if your headphones are hardwired you are stuffed but alot of detecting phones have a reversable lead meaning you pull the plug from the headset and teverse the cable then plug the other end into the detector and this will then work.

I always carry 3 sets of phones with me Predetor,Hunter and the xp backphones for hot summers days,i will admit i have changed the speakers in the 1st 2 headphones to higher quality speakers and yes its worth the extra cost.A decent set of headphones will in theory last you years if looked after.
