Is the Deus deep?

Post by Beany_bot »

Sounds like a silly question but its just that the coil "looks" fairly small. does it still hit top end depths like the ETrac?

Mine and 2 others at our dig yesterday signalled a silver 3pence at 13" we were running flat out no discrim 18khz standard coil - obviously these settings were not real life everyday settings however the signal was a digger of the type that if you were on a quiet site you would dig it - signalled in different directions no meter reading with some angles giving a reading of 98. This was a test requested on another forum - 2 other brand machines got a faint signal. The larger Deus coil didnt make any difference at any frequency....

So in conlcusion for a relatively small coil the Deus can go reasonably deep as i was shocked it saw such a tiny coin at a carefully measured and witnessed depth - for me it is not about all out depth but was fun having a go...

jimmy the swing wrote:yes the XP Deus is deep i hit coins at 10inchs to 12inchs on pasture most days and about the same same on plough but you gotta remember that most coins/artifacts are about 6inchs or so in the ground most of the time
haha, this is the dilema, people tell me to upgrade from my shallow ACE 250 as it wont find the deep stuff, then people tell me most finds are in the top 6" which my ace hits.....so dont know what to do... Dont want to pay £1000 for better separation alone.

That's an impressive depth for a threepence, especially at 18KHz. 4 - 8KHz ought to be better, in theory. My high-end machine struggles on a 3d at 8 inches. 'Gary's detecting' site mentions a test of a "silver sixpence at 10 inches" , but other than saying no machine gave a decent result, the test seems to be abandoned.

No disrespect but I'll take that with a pinch of salt mate ,':|
That would mean for every 10 finds you made with all you other machines you are finding 1000 more with the Deus.....come on....

but if you dont want to spend alot of doe on a metal detector have you had a look at a T2 :-/
aahhh. Ive had a look at the T2 yes but i think its a bit too lively for me, a bit "chatty" I like slow and quiet detecting, just getting a tone when you hit a target, cant be dealing with lots of noises, it makes me stop it my tracks and really grates me. I "believe" the T2 is quite noisy. :-/

Beany mate reading between the lines I see you mellowing to the possability of a high end machine out performing your trusty entry level Ace 250. Take it from someone who started with the Ace250 then went onto the XP Goldmaxx Power before the ultimate leap to the (in my oppinion) best machine out there you would not be dissapointed. As Norfolk Wolf (arguably one of he best and most informative detectorists) said before his unfortunate demise " the Deus is a turn on and go machine that in the pre programmed format will out perform (in the hands of inexperience) most machines on the market". He then discovered Deus fast and personalisation and came to the conclusion that it is an awsome machine that actually has the capabilities to change and be whatever machine the sittuation requires. Owning the Deus (especially for us that have managed to couple it with the larger coil) means in a small lightwieght small bag you have many different machines in one and to change from one machine to another, once experienced enough takes only seconds.

If I am right and do see you playing with the possability of upgrading then I say go for it mate but if not sure about parting with such an amount for a machine that althouigh perfectly ok with the turn on and go capabilty, will take many months to become completely comfy with setting changes
may I sugest an upgrade to a second hand GMP first. Then once absolutely ok with the3 XP querks and tones go the final mile and get the Deus. I dont see how someone as analytical as yourself will not eventually fall in love with the machine and the increase in finds rate you will most certainly get.
If you ever down this way you are welcome to contact me and have a play with my machine on my permissions.

I suppose a good thing with the Deus is you could do an area to death in one mode, then switch frequency and do it again?

You are indeed right Paul, I am flirting with the idea of an upgrade...

What I really am looking for over the Ace is..

Better target seperation and recovery time.
Better depth
Nicer tones
Much better Iron identification (esspecially larger iron) <--- very important
Possibly ability to use on wet beach (but I think im going to get a dedicated CS4PI for this so not essential)

thanks,

Cheers Chris.
Still, 6" isn't to be sniffed at. certainly usable.

Heyup Beany its a no brainer - get an AT Pro International !!!! they are absolutley fantastic and this is meant sincerely!!!

VERY VERY underated machine I "ran against one" for a few months using various Minelabs and a Fisher F75 it was only when I went GMP that I felt my finds were equalling my mates Pro - then I was lucky enough to go Deus - but for double the money it def isnt twice as good as a Pro. And so ends my honest and obviously unbiased opinion... ;)
