Hi Pete,
Personally, I wouldn't try take anything out of Turkey. I you do find anything, photograph it and hand it in at the local police station or museum. If you do attempt to take historic artfacts out with you; you may find yourself having a very extended holiday.

Many years ago I worked in Turkey for seven months and visited some of the sites; Troy. Ephesus, Pamukale, and many others. Whilst walking round some sites; I was offered historic coins but said no thank you. If offered, just say YOK. Thats Turkish for No, no way, not anyhow!

Enjoy your holiday and stay safe. It's a great place and a very friendly people. As you no doubt alredy know. :)

Ephesus!

Just sit in the theater and imagine that 2000 years ago the place was filled with a screaming mob
all wanting to kill Saul of Tarsus. He was lucky to escape with his skin.

Did you get to see the cave of the seven sleepers?
