Will I wont I

Post by FUBAR »

I shall retire from work next M ::g ay and am thinking of treating myself to the ctx 3030. I have been using the e trac for the past 3 years. When I started using the e trac it was, for me, a big learning curve and took many months to get the hang of it. If I do buy the 3030 do you think I will have the same challenges or is it just an upmarket etrac? Your advice is very much appreciated.

I went X-Terra 505 to CTX3030 & the curve to learn it properly was more like going up a 1 in 3 hill on a unicycle...........that being said, it was well worth the effort ::g ::g ::g

Have a natter with my old mate Daniel o' Beirnes, he made the transition from E Trac to CTX & should be able to give you some insight mate ;)

Unless you need a waterproof detector or a built in GPS I would advise you to not bother. The CTX is slightly deeper than the etrac but not by much and it most certainly isn't worth the additional £700 on RRP. Save your money, buy an eTrac.

I got it to help untangle finds from junk. This is the picture I posted a year ago on my first trip to the beach. I could see the trace from the iron bar & quite separately the coin. I'm not sure that many other detectors would have sorted that out, the two machines I used on this patch before were swamped by the iron.

Go for it. The CTX looks a cracking machine and is really well balanced. I can't comment on depth and ease of use (against an E-trac) but why not ?

Thanks for that sparky. Think I probably will go for it next spring just prior to retirement. One of the lads at work suggest that I get the company to buy it as a retirement gift............Now that's a thought! ::g

Go for it Fubar Ive had them all and love the CTX. You can do so much more with it apart from the waterproofing and the other mentioned goodies nobody has mentioned the very useful GPS function. Get a good find in a field and add a findpoint, get several good finds on a hotspot and mark them all and you have a record of that fields goodies forever and almost exactly to the spot. I used mine recently to mark our Celtic Silver stater hoard spots. Well last week The farmer ploughed the field and without those findspot records the exact spot would have been lost forever probably. Well I purposely marked those hoard spots and then used the GPS function the other evening to take me straight to the spot of each hole, totally awesome.

For your information If you have mastered the ETrac then you are not going to struggle to learn the CTX. Its very similar. Get a good set of programmes downloaded on exchange such as Gordon Heritages. He's the expert. You can pick your favourite programme from his then tweek it to suit yourself regarding the way you want to listen to tones etc. Wether its worth all the extra money is for you to decide, personally I didn't hesitate but then I have to have the best of everything available otherwise whats the point of working your guts out all your life, you cant take it with you, enjoy it.
