Deus Lite or GMP
Deus Lite or GMP
After much reading and advise have narrowed my choice down to a Deus Lite. Or GMP any advise or comments would be appreciated.

Bit of a tough one really, as the only way up from a GMP would be the full Deus, to be honest if i was you i would go with a full deus rather than the lite, or if funds are tight get the deus with the control box and just use wired headphones .

I CANNOT imagine using my deus without being able to see the numbers as there are many targets that give a clear diggable signal that you won't want to dig .. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying or detects in fields with no deep iron, coal or lead .. If you like digging deep iron, coal or lead then go for it you'll be at it all day long
The suggestion to get a wired pair of cheap headphones is a very good one .. You can use no headphones and have the tones come through the control box but on very windy days you might not hear them too well
They are both very capable machines but if you want the lightest machine with probably the best reactivity (ability to see targets very close together) then the deus is for you on my opinion

Just tried out the XP backphones that came with my new GMP, bliming good to be honest, sounds good, feels comfy and the lead is long and thin so almost feels wireless...oh and if you need to buy them they are about £11.50
but often come free with either a Deus or GMP new

And you can pull your Tammy right over your ears with
The headphones on on a cold day like what I did today. Cosey.

I moved from the GMP to a full Deus some years ago mainly due to a shoulder injury at the time. They are both great machines and perform well. The Deus Lite will give you more flexibility but if you find a GMP at a bargain price then that might be an option as you could always then sell it and move on to a Deus at a later stage. As the Deus Lite and GMP have no display, you will have to get used to the tones which is a good way to learn the machine.

To put the cat amongst the pigeons,
Anyone who says you need the "full"Deus over the lite really doesn't know their machine.
I have the controller but if you rely solely on the numbers you will miss loads.
I leave the controller in my pocket to change or tweak the programme. The sounds are far more accurate than any numbers. You will miss all those tiny hammies if you go by the box,
Get the lite, learn the sounds and kick arse.
Then get the box later if and when you can to aid ease of use.

Hi there, I agree with this as well. I do have the full Deus (started with the Lite). I definitely go on sound every time. My hack gold didn't even register a number, so if I had been relying on the visual, it would still be laying in a field in Warwickshire.
That control box does open up your world to tweaking things and adding programmes but friends can also programme your Lite for you using their control boxes. I mostly use my remote to follow ground balance.
I used a GMP before. Really great machine. But I find the Deus pretty much limitless for me. Wouldn't want anything else now.
I'd say the same as Jerry, a few posts up, get the Lite and save up for the controls, meanwhile learn the machine by audio.
Best of luck, whatever you decide to do!

There is another alternative you, could get the Goldmax Power (with the Deus shaft/handle) and then if you still want to go the Deus route just buy the coil and control box and h/phone adapter!!cls wrote:After much reading and advise have narrowed my choice down to a Deus Lite. A disservice is no service at all.

I have had a few GoldMaxpower's over the past few years and currently own two,and the two telescopic shafts along with a straight shaft for my 11" search head and have been sticking by them rather than upgrade to a Dues, but after watching the recent Dues fast video by Gary from Gary's detecting comparing the gold signal between two iron nails, which the Goldmaxpower never picked up, I am now seriously thinking of upgrading to a Dues light soon.
got to be the lite as you get 9 + programs and 4 frequencies and can add your own proggys
despite the lack of TID which isnt reliable on the control box and the horseshoe is not reliable ,this needs improvment on software updates in future . i am happy with my WS5s and 11 inch coil which was cheaper than a GMP ,had my own straight stem.
you can add a box later
