Maybe try and make your own smooth-bottomed one (ie. no cutouts), out of ABS or similar sheet, you could maybe salvage some raw material from a junk PC case, or one of those large plastic stacking storage boxes. Or use polypropylene sheet, again, many of those storage boxes are pp. Do you have recycling boxes for paper/glass etc? Maybe there's a spare lid somewhere? Ty-raps may be good enough to fix it in place.

hi thanks for your ideas , they always wear out along the front edge, sort of on the bottom of the L shape, i am going to try coating this section in fibreglass resin when i get the new cover . thanks again yours Red...ps its a shame no one makes the covers from something tougher..Fusion wrote:Maybe try and make your own smooth-bottomed one (ie. no cutouts), out of ABS or similar sheet, you could maybe salvage some raw material from a junk PC case, or one of those large plastic stacking storage boxes. I run a GMP with the 13 extreme coil so far so good, I also have a Adventis 2 with 11 inch coil same story had to replace within 3 months, and yes they are expensive

Have you really worn one out in less than a month ... blimey.
I would suggest taking the old cover that's worn and carefully cutting the flat base off, from the lip, as its half split already that should not be too difficult.
When you get the new cover, glue the salvaged base to the the bottom of the new cover using araldite epoxy adhesive .
When you spread the adhesive on, ensure there is an even covering right up to the edges. When you press this onto the bottom of the new cover the adhesive should squeeze out sealing the join and once it cures, give a bit more protection to the edges where the wear is happening.
I've not done it before its just what I would try if it was me!

Sounds a bit naff but maybe run a ring of black gaffa tape around the edge where its split in that picture to give it a bit more protection.

I have seen a few posts from other makes as well, think some of the beach guy's are having the same issue with the CTX covers. I have never worn out a cover myself, perhaps I use it further from the ground. Interested to see what you guy's can come up with

I agree with Dave in all my years (last 10 using XP machines) I have never worn a cover out. I suspect you are swinging just a fraction too close to the ground. I would certainly try shortening your stem a little or if not possible then change your stance so you get as low as possible without actually catching the ground. You also suggest they are going on front edge wich could also suggest you have the coil sloped forward just a little (a technique I actually use on long hard stubble) try making sure you're coil is flat in future
Hope this may be of help. Paul

i am sure that coil covers are covered under warranty if they are faulty, that is a hell of a split in yours
i use my Deus a minimum of twice a week and have had it over 18 months and i am still on the same cover
what on earth do you do with it to get it that bad ? you must have extremely hard stubble

Just an idea, I wonder if you could wrap some Spiroband around it, I only have small stuff here to show you, but you can see the idea, it is cheap and easy to replace, although it will hold the dirt in ? It comes from Electrical wholesalers . It wouldn't fit over the joining bits but may offer some protection.

hi i do swing the coil low to the ground knocking the stubble down and skimming over the grassy bits and have done for 25 years ,and i go out about 3 times a week for about 3 hours a time or so, i have noticed a lot of soil/sand stuck to the stubble stalks which maybe will acts like sandpaper on the plastic. it would be a waste of time swinging higher than the stubble . i also contacted the shop i bought the coil cover from and they have asked me to return it with the receipt, but i have already thrown it away .so thats that but i am going to try the fiberglass resin and see what happens. thanks for your ideas and tips yours RedOldest Swinger wrote:I agree with Dave in all my years (last 10 using XP machines) I have never worn a cover out. Hi Red, I think, under the circumstances, you have a valid case to complain to the manufacturer, as the product would seem to be 'Unfit for the purpose for which it was intended'. I would therefore recommend following it up by letter. The fact that you are 'unable to locate the original receipt' may in fact strengthen your case as you wish to urgently bring the matter to their attention by 'voicing your concerns'. Hope you get sorted mate. Being a user of both Minelab and XP machines, I have to say that the XP coil covers are more flimsy and thinner that the Minelab coil covers... I have had to replace my Deus 9" coil cover once but it is the older magnet V.1 type and was purchased second hand...
