It blew pretty hard here last night from the NE so I was very keen to check out a beach this morning to see what if anything had changed.Arrived to see that the sand had moved considerably in a few spots but there were some areas that appeared untouched. It was 11.30 when I started detecting, choosing an area where some rocks had been exposed. On moving one I noticed a coin that covered in green crud had obviously been lost a long time.It turned out to be a 3d (1940),I suspected there was more to be found so stayed in that fairly small area and moved away as many of the rocks as I could before detecting. There was quite a number of rusty pieces of iron but also some more coins.Finished up with 36 coins,(26 decimals,8 pre-decimals and 2 foreign).
I usually have a small tube to put the coins in (saves getting the pocket dirty)but the top is too small for pre decimal pennies (it`s on the right in picture 2)however today I spotted a discarded orange bottle that had a large top (left in picture 2) The penny I found fitted in it and did notice there was a small amount of juice left but didn`t bother to empty it as the juice would wash off the sand.It was when I came to take the penny out later,I saw that all the green crud had gone so presumably the citrus juice had cleaned it as I moved about detecting. No further harm done to the coin, rather the date (1917) was very clear.I`m going to try it next on one of the 6d`s to see if it has the same effect.
Left at 2.45pm,about 1/4 hour after 2 detectorists turned up.Didn`t get to talk to them but think they are a couple of local regulars that I`ve seen before.I think the strong wind was all down the east coast,so woder if anyone else had some good fortune

Lots of coins well found
i am always amazed at the amount of old coins from beaches, i understand that in a field they have been dropped and only plowed over now and again. But on a beach the tide comes and goes all the time , so do they sink down deep ? wash out to sea and get washed back in again over years ?

Nice day out!!! I recall that coke also cleans coins nicely ... better than drinking the stuff!

Nice haul.
Chance there's a fake sixpence there so don't forget to try to bend the ones which should contain silver (pre-1947), unless you want to keep them whole as fakes ofc, but where you find one you'll no doubt find more.
If it snaps it's a fake. Real ones won't budge (or only bend very slightly). Strange thing is the fakes still give off an eggy smell with spit and foil, so they must still oxidise from something.

Hi,
Good few coins there.
I am new to detecting and for the 1st time ever i am not dreading the onset of winter, more looking forward to the storms and what they may bring.
