Anyone in/or around Keynsham, Bristol
Hi, wow first post. Am new to the hobby of metal detecting mainly because my wife finally allowed me to start up in a new hobby. It is something I've always wanted to do, but as so often in life, never managed to find the time due to work, family and other commitments. Now I don't intend to find my fortune, does anyone? However, I do want to do things right. I've applied for public liability insurance and a permit for the Crown owned beaches. Up until now my detecting has all taken part in the garden! Apart from a few coins (current tender) and nails (rusty) I haven't found anything worthy to report. In doing so I have tried to perfect my digging technique and thankfully the lawn doesn't look like it has been invaded by moles or a small JCB! So far I have not got anywhere with any of the local clubs (most not excepting new members), but would like to know if there is anyone in and around the local area who would happily let me tag along sometime. Here's looking forward to any replies and wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Hello, I'm not a million miles away from you and was planning to do some beach trips (not sure where yet but you have some good beaches over your way) if it ever stops raining
Happy to meet up, but I'm afraid I definitely would not consider myself an expert, so it might be the blind and the blind

Thanks for the replies. Biffo, that sounds good, was thinking about WSM and Brean. The weather at the moment doesn't seem too good though! Can't wait for spring! JBM, I have applied to a few clubs but haven't got too far as yet. Reading some posts, it seems to be the matter of being in the right place at the right time and having a face that fits! Lots of clubs seem to be full, but I will keep trying! With regards to the detector, there seemed so many to choose from! With my research and my lovely wife, I ended up with a Whites M6, which I am very happy with! It seems relatively straight forward and I was hoping that it would mean not having to upgrade so soon. Like the look of the Minelab 3030, but that does look complicated, maybe one day! Even dug up a few relics (rusty nails and building junk circa 1976) in the garden, between downpours!

I know people say that beach detecting in the rain is better because it keeps everyone else at home, but don't think I could face it - I'm getting too old and have too many war wounds that ache in the cold and damp
But keep in touch and we'll sort something as soon as the weather relents a bit.
Re the 3030, I'll let you know how complex it is when I've worked out how to use it
Its actually not that difficult really
