CTX Coil not working properly. New coil purchased.

Post by fred »

The CTX has been a very robust and reliable machine, however, when I was out detecting the other day my stock coil gradually became unusable. It was making noises everywhere and none of the ususal adjustments would stabilise it. It was just about possible to hear targets through the noise but detecting was no longer pleasant. ;;z

In my experience coil problems are usually cable or connector related. It was recently used on a beach so I am also wondering if sea water could have got in to the coil through a crack.

I eventually changed to the larger coil and normality was resumed.

I am away at the moment and will do a closer inspection of it later. Has anybody else has had a similar problem? The machine is well out of warranty and I was wondering if a repair was possible in your case?

hi there,i use a ex2 on the beach,and i have found that grains of sand can get under the coil cover,and cause false signals,try taking the coil cover off,and rinse with fresh water,then dry off with kitchen towl.since youve covered the other options loose conections at coil,and control box this maybe the problem.hope this helps.

Thanks for reminding me. I found that too with my Ex2 and it was one of the things that I tried but I forgot to mention it. rl;

Bit the bullet and bought a new stock coil. I'll put it through it's paces over the next few days and make sure that the problem is resolved. Can't see that it won't be though as the large coil is working fine on the CTX (see 'Gromit' post).

Nearly decided to give the new Coiltek 14" coil a try but the increased weight over the 17" Minelab one put me off.

Cheers for the input. ::g
