Re: Maldives
I’m not knowledgeable about the Maldives but I’m moved it to the international permissions section so hopefully someone else can help

I have been a few times and taken a scubatector with me which is very discreet.
It may not be illegal to detect, but a lot of the island’s are exclusive and they certainly don’t like you doing anything that may upset the other island guests. (They sweep the beaches twice a day to keep them pristine)
I would certainly ask your holiday organiser before assuming that it’s ok to detect on the island that you are holidaying on, like this country the land/island is owned by an entity that may or may not want you detecting on what is their property.
Hope this is of help.

So you are going to be swinging your coil in beautiful sunshine while we plod through ankle deep mud. Not jealous at all. Good hunting and be sure to check out treasure regs. for the Maldives before going through customs.

According to a source on the net, detecting is allowed in India so I would assume it would be the same for the Maldives.
You could always email the resort but I would imagine they've never had such a request as I've never seen anyone metal-detecting whilst I've been there.

Great that you can use a detectorSplash wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2019 6:23 am Just found this on the MD HUNTER BLOG SITE
List of countries where metal detecting is allowed/banned section
Maldives. Metal detecting is allowed without any restrictions.

The same is not the same for other countries and permission will still be required

I reckon it's about as portable/ compact as it gets!- I bought the simplex specifically as a back up detector AND because it fits in to my backpack without having to dismantle it!- whereas my other detectors had to be taken apart to fit!. When dismantled it'll be be even more compact and shouldn't take up much room at all in a suitcase etc!.Splash wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2019 5:06 pm Thanks for the advice oxigirl
A question for the new simplex users, does it look like a good portable machine for holiday metal detecting?

My main interest is Natural History so my main focus was on the nature of the islands.Splash wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2019 6:02 am Post by Fisher1266X » Mon Dec 02, 2019 3:47 p
Hi Fisher
I am surprised that such a keen metal detector fan such as you didnt even think about enquiring about whether it was allowed while you where there???
Its beach metal detecting heaven![]()
Ive been there many times over the years but wasnt into metal detecting then unfortunatley.
Did you do any fishing while you were there?

I've never been inclined to metal-detect any of the exotic places I've visited.
I've only fished a few times whilst abroad but a friend caught a 790kg Marlin whilst I was in Mauritius
