Bottom stem not clamping.?

Post by budwieser »

Hi all, Hope you had a great Christmas.
My Deus bottom stem is very loose and will not clamp up, I`ve changed the clamp with a new one from Regton but its still the same! Any ideas,? T.I.A

That's an odd one. Maybe ask Regtons what they think? Does the metal stem appear to be distorted in any way?

I had the issue with a very worn lower stem. (beach detecting, wet sand on the stem and such are doing this)
I lacquered it with some good covering colorless paint and since that time it is sitting well again.

Be aware, that the paint needs to be very dry, otherwise you may have the lower stem very fixed in the upper stem after the next break ;)

As a precaution take a thin strip of celluloid or similar out with you if it slips slide it under the cam.

I just stuck some electricians tape to the stem where the friction plate would strike the stem.
It worked too well as I struggled to extend it hahahahaha!!! =)) =))

Happy New Year!

Is it loose wherever on the stem you try to clamp it? If it fails to clamp anywhere on the stem it's the cam, if it clamps in a different position to your usual position it's a worn stem.
