Shoreham-by-Sea and Sussex area

Post by Ashleyjw »

Looking for someone or a club to detect with in the Sussex area (or someone to teach me best ways to go around getting permissions! Haha), been into the hobby for a few years but dont know anyone else with a detector, I've got a big interest of history and especially local history so I like detecting anywhere you can dig haha

Only got a ACE 150 tho, but will be looking to upgrade in the near future, cheers! ::g

Hello and welcome to the forums
An Ace 150 is a good enough machine to test the waters with, but as the interest bites then the calling to upgrade gets louder

Gaining permissions, its a tough one these days
I would start with your friends and family, you will be surprised that some of them know farmers, or folk that own horses (they often own fields)
You can also go to the Farm shops, buy yourself some eggs and start off a conversation about the land and your interest in metal detecting
Although i am not a facebook person, my wife is and i have had 1 permission come from something my wife made and sold
Remember your facebook friends list is often larger than your real life friends list, so put a message on there too
Farmers markets are a huge gathering of Farmers
Our local one at junction 24 off the M5 has a great cafe there and i have on occasion gone for a breakfast there and see if i can find any willing farmers to detect their land
I got lucky once quite a few years ago and got myself a huge farm near the quantocks, I really need to get back in contact with that chap too, havent been there for many years
It was a shared permission, so i always felt a bit of an outsider anyways

But i think what my insane ramblings are trying to say is to look in other places for permissions, as the cliche goes you need to think outside of the box

Good luck ::g

How about a cheap beach machine too? You live in a very good area. ::g
