3 Hoards
3 Hoards
After 5 years I finally had a hoard. I've had a few scattered hoards but I've been waiting for that buried isolated hoard. The first came on Monday, a part scattered hoard of BA bun ingots. The actual hoard spot took me around 15" deep. There were at least 20 pieces from that hole with the rest scattered within a 20ft radius. 33 pieces in total. The second hoard came on the Tuesday. I had a whispy deep signal and unearthed a deep and thick almost full bun ingot. Underneath that was 64 individual bronze pieces. A few hours later that day I found the third hoard. 31 pieces which were part hoard spot and part scattered. Suffice to say I'm shattered and the weight of them all is astounding.

Your FLO is going to love this .. sounds like its a very rich site.
Have you had a chat with him/her yet? Think they may qualify as Treasure?
Very well discovered..

My mate found a hoard like that one last year. As soon as he realised what he was digging up, he stopped and contacted the organisers of the dig. They immediately informed the FLO, who arranged for it to be properly excavated the next day. My mate went to watch the excavation, during which a partial ceramic pot was identified. These are very rare finds because they more or less turn back to earth. It had to be pointed out to my mate because it just looked like another piece of dirt and he wouldn’t have noticed it. The hoard and pot were lifted in one piece and transported to the BM for proper examination. My mate was highly praised for stopping before destroying the pot completely.
It’s difficult to stop yourself getting carried away when discovering a hoard, but the archi’s take a dim view of amateur excavations of this type, so get ready for a lecture on best practice.
Hope it goes ok

I'll have a bet there's more there..... possibly axes/weapons.
Well done btw

Only in it for the ££££'s

Tool and fragments elsewhere on the field including a whole socketed axehead but not in the hoard holes/areas.
