New to detecting and looking for buddy in or around Solihull

Post by Peejaytee »

Hi, I have my garden and 3 group digs under my belt and would like to pal up with another, local to myself. With current lock-down in progress perhaps not the best time to post but have to look to the future. I appear to have learned the basics with my Garrett Ace 300i and have managed to find a few items of interest so would like to progress, especially as others found Celtic Gold staters in the same field as I found an 1862 Victoria bronze half penny on Tuesday 3rd November, with another member finding a Bronze Age axe head. An epic day indeed and definite inspiration to persevere.
Please pm. me if interested, regards Peejaytee, Solihull, West Midlands

Hi,
Apologies for not replying sooner but I expected a email notification from MDF which never came.
I have been joining in with Lets Go Digging events and should have been going to their event at Drayton in Oxfordshire this Sunday 6th Dec. but due to our area being placed into tier 3 have had to cancel. I bought a new coil for the occasion and will now have to wait before I can try it out on a field but I hope the restrictions can ease soon. I bought my first detector just as Covid-19 kicked in so only have a few digs experience, although I do now feel quite competent after gaining knowledge and experience with my Ace 300i. Have you been detecting long yourself.
Regards, Pete.

Hi Pete, there is no notifications to thread replies as the MDF email server was getting overloaded due to the amount of daily posts, pm and other emails generated by the system being made.

Hello,
I’m new to the metal detecting scene, I live in Kingshurst Birmingham and I’m looking to buddy up or Join a local club.
If anyone wants to do a social distanced dig or can point me in the right direct of a local club, please let me know.

Hello Rich, Due to the Covid induced restrictions currently in force throughout the UK, it is the case that club activities have been curtailed until they are formally lifted by the government and this would appear to be the situation for the foreseeable future. [08/]
Good Luck. ss47

Hi Rich,
Due to Covid restrictions our pastime is on hold at present but I have joined the Lets Go Digging Facebook page and went on three organised digs with them before being locked down. Nothing local however although they cover a wide area so maybe in the future they will organise something nearer. In the meantime if you have any contacts with farmers or other landowners it would be good to use this time for obtaining permission. What detector do you have, mine is a Garrett 300i but whatever machine you have you can learn much from Youtube videos. When things permit I would be happy to team up and help as much as possible, do you have transport ?....Regards Pete

Hi Pete
Thanks for the message,
I’ve joined that Facebook page and also midland metal detectors club.
But as you say it’s a no go at the minute and need to wait for the lockdown to relax.
What area you from ?

Hi Rich,
I'm in Solihull and bought my first detector in March and feel that I have learned a fair bit but still have plenty left to absorb. Probably one of the most important things to pass on is, get to know how your detector works and it's settings, and I experimented with the settings in my back garden first after watching loads of Youtube videos.
