Good combo?

Post by Pulltab Magnet »

Hi to you all,

Have decided to buy a NEL Sharp coil to go with my MMK. Reason being I have not had much luck on wet sand with the stock coil.( Possibly'cos there is nothing to find... [27/] )
Just wonder if anyone else has used this combination and what their results were.
Cheers,
Ian

Molten aluminium globules, bottle tops and an old shovel....... Oh and lots of interested dogs sniffing around my 2 foot deep excavations.

Hi Koala

Not that many rockpools mainly large expanses of mineralised sand....

dig a hole close to the water line let it fill up and see if the detector detects the empty hole

Bury a sixpence 3" down in the wet sand see if its a nice strong signal

of the answer yes then no then maybe the MMK isn't the detector for your beach. Or some settings need altering.

the sweet spot on flat beaches seems to be 8" to 10". Thats just my opinion.

I love small 5" coils. Great where trashy or wet rockx. But not normally the coil for flat expanses. Although if you sweep slowly with it. It will calme a detector down slightly as its seeing less ground.

Thanks for that info Koala , will try your suggestions.
Plan on comparing the stock coil against the NEl and see what the differences are , then adjust my tactics afterwards.
