Hi,as far as I`m aware the mourne mountains are owned by landowners and are subjected to the permission of such, the permit allows you to search in most beaches in n.ireland unless protected by the state,if anyone knows otherwise feel free to comment. [:)

Hi and welcome,I`m just round the corner from you in portadown.I mostly detect beaches and that is a good way to start,I have never heard of a siban metal detector,I have heard of a seben extreem power detector. If you are free some day we could check out some beaches to get you used to it.I use a cscope 4pi which is mainly for beaches, havn`t found much yet just some modern coins, hopefully some day something better will turn up.Brian.

Hi Dorain,
Where abouts are you from? Near the border? My homeplace is Donegal, where i live isnt far from Lifford and i've searched a good few of the beaches in the county over the years.

Cheers

Hi Fhionnbarr,
My original homeplace is quite close to Lifford, im just about 10 mile from the border on the south side. No i haven't tried detecting there, is it a scheduled monument or scheduled land? Cos if it is its a no no for detecting regardless whether you have permission from the owner to search it or not given its archaelogical importance. Good to see fellow detectorists on here from Ireland!
Cheers

I bet there is a lot of history to that which I am often reminded that a small village close to me was where King William III tied his horse to a large oak tree and where his men camped for the night right close to the river Lagan on there way to the Battle of the Boyne in fact the tree and woodland where they camped as I am to believe is still there to this present day so I should think there is a lot of history each and every place they stopped on the route to the Boyne. :)
