Some Nice Beach Finds Today.

Post by detectorman5050 »

Some nice beach finds today, two 1797 cartwheel pennies, plus what I reckon is a Victorian copper ring, with blue enamel?

I was using the CTX (my fave beach machine.) Almost gave up on recovering the copper ring due to the depth, but glad that I didn’t!

It was a great day out, after a long absence from metal detecting due to lockdown. [81/]

Well done. [81/]

I had a cartwheel penny from a beach a week or two ago, but much more worn than yours.

The ring looks interesting, i had 2 cartwheel pennies from the beach a few years ago similar condition but not really on the beach sand so was not running in /out with wave/ tide action. I went down the beach yesterday morning ( about 8 30 am ) nothing old turned up but did find £3.50 all helps and it was peaceful there. Well found coins and ring. [81/]

Thanks for all the replies. It’s great how the beach often preserves old items in nice condition, as in this instance. I’ve found cartwheels on land, and they are nearly always trashed.

However, not all beaches are good to coins. I went to a beach with what looked like ‘red sand,’ and even the 1950’s/60’s coins were badly worn. I think that the tide actions, type of sand, rocks etc, all contribute to the condition of old items recovered from a beach.
