Fill in your holes

Post by Brad85 »

I went to one of my local beaches this morning and was shocked to find it covered in holes that look to have been left by a sand scoop. It only takes a couple of swipes with the foot to fill in, which I went around doing lest any passerbys think I were the culprit. On a lot of beaches we detect by grace of the council. It would be a shame if they removed the right to detect due to poor housekeeping.

Yo Brad....great to hear that I am not the only one ranting on this. Here we have a "detectorist terrorist" digging one ft square and deep holes and not filling them in even on playing fields which we can do here Nova Scotia. Hope your mate gets the message me bouy and be safe!

normal

make me angry

a few years ago I saw two detectorist dig a must be close to two hundred holes between them on a small section of beach

looked like the surface of the moon

yes i know the tide will clear up

But thats not the point. It only takes one photo to the council or on Facebook or twitter. Why not spend 10 seconds filling a hole

its beyond me.

the worst for craters was Southwold.

but Its not unusual

I have seen digging in the dunes

child with its parents detecting in Queens Park Crewe

a 2 meter circle of pasture with no turf left

an iron bar dug up and left planted upright in the middle of a field

detecting on NT land and YouTube videos detecting on NT land

thats nothing the mudlarks used to leave 6 foot holes unfilled, and to get out of the hole needed assistance to be pulled out if u fell in one ,up to your armpits in sludge ..the licence stoped that

In the “good old days” when common sense was still alive and kicking,I mostly detected beaches and on occasions parkland.Detecting in the U.K.had only been going for about 10 years then,so I encountered little trouble.Even so,I always filled in my holes particularly on the latter so left virtually no trace of being there.Back then I rarely saw another detectorist, just occasionally on the beach.
