Foreign Coins
Foreign Coins
Hi just asking , do people often find foreign coins? I've only been detecting for a few months and have found 2 old foreign coins in a 2 acre field in West Sussex. 1- Austrian Ein Kreuzer 1816, 2- Dutch Zeelandia 176?

Hi Boris
There is an excellent selection of the foreign coins our members find in the thread: viewforum.php?f=312

Your Dutch coin is a Duit (the Dutch pronounce it as DOWT) from the province of Zeeland.Druits from various provinces are not rare to find here in the UK.I have found numerous foreign coins over the years, the early ones probably lost by traders or maybe even brought back by soldiers in the old Empire days.Usually they are copper, early foreign silver tends to be rare.

It's always been the same. Even a proportion of gold staters and hammered coins originated abroad. ![ThumbsUp [81/]](./images/smilies/81_EmoticonsHDcom.png)
