Who knew ?

Post by Bakerboy7284 »

So guys and gals, I’ve done it.
Finally after years of wanting to start the hobby and after finally deciding to buy all the gear…. Today was my first ever day detecting.
Settled on a beach in Penrhyn Bay North Wales as we had been in Llandudno for the day and decided it was a good place to start learning the machine and the technique.
And I ended up with a dozen rusty nails, 2 (what I’m pretty sure are) 1p coins and I think a handle of a spoon or some form of cutlery/serving. I can’t decide if it’s silver or stainless … well not can’t decide it’s more don’t have a clue … I dipped the end of it in white vinegar and salt solution and it started to turn a pinkish colour if that rings any bells with people…
Anyway, my point is …. I had a bloody ball!!!!!
Who knew digging up rusty nails was so much fun?!?! I completely lost track of time too!
I can’t wait to get more experience and start to find more interesting things but everyone has to start somewhere and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

Great to hear you really enjoyed your first ever day's detecting on the beach. [81/]
You've done very well as beaches are not considered the easiest of venues for your very first introduction. Here's to many more [81/]
Cheers Eric

Safe to say it's not silver then.

Welcome to the world of digging up mostly junk and occasionally something that isn't [81/]

😂😂😂 yeah I feared as much … i think the romantic idea of finding a piece of silver on my first dig had clouded my judgment 😂 in all honesty though I don’t really care .. I had so much fun digging junk. I deffo think I’ve got the bug!

Exactly the same as me mate 5 weeks in but it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it and your machine for decent finds to start popping up [81/]
You only go round the block once! So you might as well go round it with a smile on your face (2:)

You will soon start to find some interesting stuff and some surprises, lots of beach was once dry land before coastal erosion and all sorts turn up. Meanwhile you are doing people a favour by taking rubbish off the beaches, better that than in a bather's foot.
