South Devon Beaches
Hi
Can anyone advise on beaches to detect in South Devon please? The beaches section on this site doesn't have anything for Devon. Much appreciated.

Hiya.
I don’t personally know of any South Devon beaches you can definitely detect on, but I use this -https://thecrownestate.maps.arcgis.com/ ... a5aa1660db
If the area is shaded pink/purple (I’m slightly colour blind), it belongs to the crown estate and is open to things like detecting or drone flying, unless local authorities dictate otherwise.
I don’t know if this is a good policy or not, but the way I see it is, if it’s crown estate and there is no signage at the beach to tell you that you cannot detect, then I personally would just get on and detect.
There are plenty of ‘no kite buggies’, ‘no dog walking in summer months’ , ‘no alcohol’ and many other signs, that I’m sure there would be clearly marked signs for ‘no detecting’.
Just my two pennies worth

i'm just starting out detecting in Torbay.
The crown estate doesn't cover all the Torbay beaches . But when i recently emailed Torbay council to ask if they would allow detecting on their open spaces, they replied to say that i can detect on all their beaches!

Hi: I intend to start detecting soon on Broadsands Beach at Paignton. Have just bought a flat on the Dartmouth Road and will go down to the beach when we have finished the decorating! The weather is getting better so would guess will start at the end of May? There are other MD people living in the area and will make an effort to get know so keep an eye on the Forum, Regards Wesley
Hi, i was down at Charmouth last year, didn't take the detector with me but enquired, all that was required was t fill in a form at the local information center, no cost, and all the beaches were then detectable, last for a year at a time.

i was going to try Broadsands last week but took a punt at Man Sands instead, hoping as its out of the way that it may not have been detected much in the past. Beautiful place but only a few signals of scrap alluminium and a copper dog tagbsaa10 wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 7:35 pm Hi: I intend to start detecting soon on Broadsands Beach at Paignton. After reading Syborg’s post, I googled ‘metal detecting Charmouth Beach’ as I live close enough to visit.
I was amazed. As well as going to the local visitor centre for an application to detect, you can download the application form online, as the local authorities actually cater for metal detecting.
Clear rules and regulations also included too.
How very organised, if only all local authorities worked this way.
It’s not like it’s an unpopular hobby!

Hi, BSA10 here! Have bought a flat on Dartmouth Road, Broadsands Road TQ4. This week will walk down to Broadsands beach just to see what's going on. Metal detector is in the cupboad but will not be bringing it on this occasion. If you are on the beach I will come over and introduce myself. Regards Wesley
