Foreign coins found in the U.K. Have members found any good ones?

Post by Ringtop-grafter »

As a new starter I was just wondering if experienced and not so experienced members have found many foreign coins in their time detecting? Are they common? After my recent post finding a “not very exciting “ Belgium 1894 coin on my permission which was the only coin I found that day which I thought was bizarre amongst musket balls, buttons, a medieval trade weight and the usual trash..
If so I’d be interested in what you’ve found [81/]

I have found a few French coins from the late 1800’s, German coin from about the same period but my most unexpected one is the one below, which I believe comes from one of the Indian States at about the time of the Raj….

Hi i've found a 1720's Russian 5 kopeck , 1760's Dutch-Zeelandia Duit and an 1816 Austrian 1 Kreuzer, always makes me wonder the stories behind these coins, most likely farm labourers i'd guess.

A fair number of foreign gold coins turn up. I've had a French 10 francs.

A mate (in the UK) found a South American gold coin which sold at auction for $50k. [81/]

Yesterday I got a pre WWI silver 50 Pfennigs and a Chinese coin on the beach.😁

I always find it weird how these coins get found in the middle of nowhere.

My "best" find this weekend was an 1890 25 Ore coin from Denmark!

Looked exactly like a modern 5p at first glance.

Not had anything interesting from my ground here but a 1860's Swedish coin turned up from the garden of family property in rural France, wonder how that got there :~#)

Thanks to the knowledge here for identification of it, I found a Louis XV 2 sol - very out of context I thought, another "How on earth did that get here?"
