Alnmouth Beach Permission?

Post by jph »

Hi All,

Has anybody detected Alnmouth beach?
I'll be there in August for a wedding and I thought I'd give the beach a try.
I've checked the Crown Estates map and the only part of the beach coloured Purple is South of the river mouth. So am I right in thinking the beach near the Town is owned by someone else?

Thanks in advance,

John

Hello John ::g My advice would be to contact the Town Council and ask for clarification regarding responsibility of the beach area. They will also be able to quote any bye laws or other restrictions that may be in force. All the best and please report back on any details obtained.
All the best. ::g Regards ss47

Hi SS47,

I'll give that a go right away. I'll let everyone know the outcome.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Did you contact the council?

Hi,

Short answer is no. Long answer below.

I know this is an old post but I found it looking for the same answer. I did contact the local council (Alnmouth Parish Council) who informed me the beach and harbour area are all owned by Northumberiand Estates (Duke of Northumberland basically). I did get in touch with them and had a quick reply back from the estates office stating that they did not allow detecting on any Northumbrian Estates land, including this.

So - no. Crown Estate lands on beach starts a little way up at Low Steads Links just up from Sugar Sands and extends north from there, where you can, according to their maps.

I have met and spoken with detectorists on Alnmouth beach however who assumed it was Crown land and cracked on but clearly doing so at own risk.
