anyone used a AT Pro in the uk? Not the international

Post by todesign »

Hi new to metal detecting been wanted to do it for years, and i'm finally getting ready to start, very confused about the AT PRO (US version) and AT PRO international (EUROPE VERSION)

I guess my question is has anyone had any success using the american one in the uk or europe? as its aload cheaper buying the american one :-/

I know it must be configured slightly different for european soil types but i'm still struggling to justify the price change :

USA AT PRO = $590 = £360
AT PRO INTERNATIONAL = $976 = £595

I've seen one post somewhere (forgotten where) mentioning my point above. but i'd still like to hear off someone thats used the american one in this country just to see if it makes that much difference.

cheers for any input.

(other reason i was thinking of getting the US one is that i can get the submersible headphones and a pinpointer and still be under the uk price ;) )

Sorry can not answer on the difference between the 2 machines. But if you was thinking about buying a machine from the US then you may be in for a shock when you get a bill from UK customs for taxes and carriers fees which could amount to another 30% on the cost.

Anything over £18 imported from outside the EU zone is liable to taxes, sometimes you get away with it sometimes you don't.

I've imported quite a lot of electronic equipment from the USA and your conversion of the costs are not quite correct.

My maths show the following costs:

AT-Pro $594.95 with shipping included (at 1.59 dollars to the pound = £374.18)
20% Vat = £74.84
Parcel Force customs clearance/handling charge = £13.50
Total cost £462.62

I don't think a metal detector will be subject to duty, most electronic items appear to be duty free, but I've not imported one.

If the item is shipped via the US Postal Service, the most likely route, Parcel Force handle the UK delivery side. If you pay extra for shipping via a courier service the customs clearance/handling charge may differ, for example last January UPS charged me £11 handling for an item costing $1000.

You will be very lucky if the customs ignore the package, it sometimes happens on smaller value items but hardly ever on more costly ones.

It works out cheaper if you e lucky and don't need a warranty repair though B-)
