It's worth checking the dimensions of PP3 batteries batteries as I've found some do differ.
A slightly 'shorter' one can result in intermittent contact and require a small packing piece to be installed (as Doiugie53 suggests above). I have opted to insert a 'made up' plastic disc inside the cap which is removeable. Mine's not a Minelab 'Pointer' but most if not all appear to require a similar constant pressure connection.
Due to repeated use (mine's 10 yrs old) it's also possible that the +/- contacts at the base of the pin-pointer (which are necessarily 'sprung') can weaken creating the same problem, obviously the remedy would be the same in both instances. [81/]

Hi Dougie,
A small piece of foam in the cap was a complete solution for mine.
The profind 35 is simply brilliant and i would not be without it now.
Good luck

had the same minelab pro-find 20 issue just now, one should not need to pad out the battery space, there should be a spring loaded mecahnism in the end cap to maintain light pressure on the battery - manufacturing error
