An experiment in Electrolysis.

Post by Moxey »

I found this Charles 1 Sixpence last week. No end of spit and silver foil would clean it. So out with the Electrolysis. 9v for 45 seconds. The black came off in flakes. A quick rinse and a cleaner coin appeared.

Not bad!👍
Sometimes you get an light coloured encrustation on silver coins that spit and foil will not shift, zapping invariably removes it.

Now that it's been zapped, put it in some bleach to re-tone it, then lightly rub with foil or blutac to bring out the legend and other details, it will improve the coin considerably IMHO!

Cheers,
Harry.
