Removing Explorer control box from handle

Post by bmp001 »

Any tips on removing the control box from the handle ?

Looks like it should slide off once the control box lid has been removed - think it did on the Quattro - but this one is locked on.

Did they get glued in manufacture?

Thanks,

....just checked the Quattro, control box slides off the handle relatively easy...

This Explorer control box is 'stuck' rigid to the handle, I'm thinking its glued on for some reason ??

No it will not slide off, it has a 'peg' on the inside of the lower half of the handle that prevents it from sliding along the shaft. It should just 'pull' away from the shaft.

Right, quick update, finally managed to get it apart and the answer was somewhere along the line - glue was applied between control box and handle, think it must have been apart when this happened because the glue was in lines, aligned with handle.

To confirm the control box bottom half does slide off the handle, small amount of presure required. Top half of control box - once assembled to bottom half - holds the assembled control box in place by enclosing a spigot on the handle.
I believe the Quattro, Safari, Explorer and Etrac are all the same in this respect.

Apologies Bridex but your post is incorrect, think you must have another detector in mind ?

I'll see if I can post a couple of pics in due course.
